Six Flags Over Georgia is the second of the original three parks built by Six Flags. The park opened in 1967 after the success of Six Flags Over Texas. Six Flags founder Angus G. Wynne began searching for a location of a second park, and settled upon a parcel of land located along the Chattahoochee River just west of the city of Atlanta, and design work started in 1964. As the park opened in 1967, Six Flags became the first 'multi-gate' theme park operator in the United States.[1]

In 1989, Bugs Bunny Land opened.[2]

On August 31, 2017, the park announced a new coaster, Twisted Cyclone. It is an RMC hybrid of the former Georgia Cyclone.
